Land Rover reveals Evoque

8 Oct 2010

Land Rover has revealed the new model that will boost employment by up to 1000 jobs at its Halewood plant on Merseyside. Jaguar Land Rover is seeking more than 1,000 engineers, supervisors and production operators to support the launch of the all-new Range Rover Evoque in summer 2011.

Vacancies for Jaguar Land Rover engineers and supervisors, which will offer an average salary of £35,000 per annum, can be viewed on www.jaguarlandrovercareers.co.uk. Applications for the production operator vacancies only are being handled by Manpower. For more information about these vacancies, call Manpower’s National Recruitment Centre on 0191 221 1440.

Production of models destined for 160 different markets around the globe will be phased in over just three months, starting with the right-hand drive UK market and including the left-hand drive US market by autumn. “The Range Rover Evoque is a significant step in Jaguar Land Rover’s plan to grow its business,” said Ralf Speth, chief executive officer, Jaguar Land Rover, “ around 85 per cent of the Evoques built at Halewood will be exported making a significant contribution to the UK economy”.

Halewood Operations already manufactures the award-winning Land Rover Freelander 2, which since its launch in late 2006 has collected 30 automotive awards globally, including the Auto Express 2010 Best Compact SUV. The Freelander 2 is Land Rover’s best-selling vehicle globally and, in the UK, sales so far this year are up more than 60 per cent versus the same period in 2009.

Michael Straughan, Operations Director at Halewood, said, “Halewood Operations has a reputation for excellent manufacturing quality and is recognised throughout the industry as a centre of excellence for Lean Manufacturing. The Range Rover Evoque has been eagerly anticipated since we first showed the LRX Concept in Detroit in 2008 and we are looking forward to welcoming some enthusiastic new recruits to the team to deliver it to the marketplace”.
