Rolls-Royce celebrates National Apprenticeship Week
7 Mar 2014
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars celebrated the launch of National Apprenticeship Week at an event hosted by The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) earlier this week. Rolls Royce apprentices met Matthew Hancock, Minister of State for Skills and Enterprise, and demonstrated the unparalleled hand craftsmanship that goes in to every Rolls-Royce motor car.
The company’s Apprenticeship Programme was successfully launched in 2006 and provides people aged 16-24 with the opportunity to train with the Goodwood-based manufacturer of the world’s best-selling super-luxury cars. The apprenticeships last for up to four years and combine on-the-job training with studying for nationally recognised qualifications. The programme has been designed in conjunction with the Learning Skills Council (LSC) and several local colleges.
The selection process is designed to guarantee recruitment of the very best candidates who could have the opportunity to progress with the company following a successful apprenticeship period.
In addition to the Apprenticeship Programme, more than 60 men and women are employed with the company each year on industrial placements ranging in duration from six to 12 months. The company also runs a successful graduate programme, with new positions made available each year.
“We are delighted to support National Apprenticeship Week,” said Frank Ludwig, Director of Manufacturing, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. “Our successful Apprenticeship Programme delivers future talent for Rolls-Royce and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the development and training of young people in the UK manufacturing industry.”
In January the Company also announced a recruitment programme for 100 new permanent jobs based at the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood, primarily in the manufacturing areas. This is in addition to the 100 new jobs announced in July 2013. More than 1300 people are now employed by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars worldwide.
