Business in the Classroom at BMW for Coleshill students

24 Jun 2013

Students from The Coleshill School have been benefiting from attending lessons at the BMW engine manufacturing plant at Hams Hall.

For the second-year running, BMW Plant Hams Hall has supported the CBI West Midlands initiative, Business in the Classroom, which promotes partnerships between businesses and schools in order to inspire young people into business, increase their knowledge of the work place and improve their employability skills. The initiative also places a strong focus on the importance of science, technology, engineering and maths skills.

This year, 19 year nine students from The Coleshill School have worked on a project looking at the car of the future. With the BMW plant currently preparing for the production of engines for the new BMW i8 hybrid sports car, apprentices from the plant worked alongside the children to give examples of how the company is looking at future mobility.

“It has been such a privilege and an exciting opportunity for The Coleshill School to collaborate with BMW, ” said Mrs Johnson, Head of the technology faculty. “Our students have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have benefited from developing their confidence, personal skills and an interest and knowledge about potential careers.”

Lucy Healey, specialist, associate and apprentice training at BMW said: “Investment in young people is a key part of our development strategy for the plant.  It has been a pleasure to work with the students of The Coleshill School and I hope that through Business in the Classroom at BMW we have been able to inspire the young people who took part and demonstrate there are many exciting opportunities within the manufacturing industry.”

Both BMW Plant Hams Hall and The Coleshill School will be participating in the CBI West Midlands Business in the Classroom celebration event to be held in Birmingham next month.
