Vauxhall Apprenticeships groom leaders of tomorrow
7 Feb 2012
Vauxhall kick-started National Apprenticeship week on Monday at the SMMT together with other automotive manufacturers offering exciting opportunities to young bright talent in Britain at its UK sites.
Phil Millward, Vauxhall’s HR Director who himself started his career at Vauxhall as an engineering apprentice 43 years ago on the shop floor of Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port plant, presented the company’s broad apprenticeship programme in company of two young apprentices, James Crimes and Dan Johnson, who are both training for a diploma in mechanical and electrical engineering. In addition to manufacturing and engineering programmes, Vauxhall is now also offering commercial apprenticeships for the second year running and last year as many as 124 places were filled with apprentices taking up training at 5 different sites in Bedfordshire and Cheshire as well as retailer operations nationwide.
Phil Millward points out: “Apprenticeship programmes offer a very attractive alternative to university study, as the young people will receive valuable tuition at partner educational institutions whilst training on the job, receiving support and advice from the team as well as an attractive compensation and benefits package. At the end of the cycle, most apprentices stay within the business well suited to become our leaders of tomorrow.”
