The hunt for tomorrow’s automotive talent has today got under way with the launch of SMMT’s Award for Automotive Innovation 2011, to find the UK’s next big idea or technology that will change the face of the UK’s automotive industry.
Recognising excellence in automotive design, engineering and technology, the Award highlights achievements in innovation, acknowledging ideas that have already benefitted, or have the potential to deliver, automotive excellence.
Companies and individuals from across UK automotive are invited to participate in the competition, which will be judged by a panel of industry experts including Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive; Jerry Hardcastle, Vice President, Vehicle Design and Development, Nissan and Ralph Hosier, Chartered Engineer and motoring journalist.
“This Award sets the standard in innovative automotive design, engineering and technology, highlighting the capabilities of UK automotive, which belongs to one of the most globally dynamic and diverse industries in the world,” said Paul Everitt. “Putting the spotlight on UK automotive talent, AAI 2011 calls for cutting-edge entries which demonstrate the strength and calibre from across the UK sector.”
Last year’s Award was presented to Gordon Murray Design for the iStream manufacturing process. The winner was picked from over 40 entries across the sector, ranging from a carbon fibre chassis to a livestock transporter.
AAI 2011 is free to enter and the winner will be announced at SMMT’s 95th Annual Dinner on 22 November 2011 at the London Hilton, Park Lane. To book tickets for the 95th SMMT Annual Dinner, click here.
