Government launches manufacturing exhibition to showcase UK talent
6 Sep 2010
The government today launched an exhibition to showcase UK excellence in design, engineering and manufacturing as part of its commitment to supporting the manufacturing sector and encouraging economic growth in the UK.
The unveiling is the first in a series of exhibitions which will be rolled out over the coming months, featuring exhibits from companies within the engineering supply chain sector including JCB, Craftman Tools, Renishaw and Mazak UK.
The exhibits will be displayed in the main reception area at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) in London and will be used to raise awareness of a new manufacturing framework, to be launched this autumn. This new framework will detail specific plans for promoting growth in this sector.
Government has already demonstrated a commitment to encouraging future generation manufacturing through investment in further education colleges and through the creation of 50,000 new apprenticeships in the UK.
Business minister Mark Prisk said, “Britain is a world leader in manufacturing but if we are to inspire future generations we must do all we can to promote UK excellence.”
