Composites Innovation Cluster launches backed by joint AMSCI-industry funding
28 Jun 2013
The Composites Innovation Cluster (CiC) has launched, setting its sights on delivering a nationally connected network of composites knowledge and technology providers to address the future market opportunities in UK manufacturing.
Supported by £11m of funding from Round 2 of the government’s Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative (AMSCI), with match funding provided by industry partners, the CiC will deliver 13 projects across 25 partners in 2013. The aim is to generate a holistic supply chain model which will extend throughout the composites community.
The CiC is led by Cytec Industrial Materials, partnered by Axillium and Composites UK and brings together a range of academics, suppliers and stakeholders with knowledge and expertise of the composite sector. Under the leadership of the partners, the collaborative cluster will support the creation and safeguarding of over 200 jobs. It will also create £190m of growth opportunities by addressing market barriers which challenge the wider adoption of composites in a number of UK industries including automotive.
The CiC will work to enhance the development of skilled workers, material and technology generation processes and knowledge of the existing UK composite supply chain so that companies can access the new opportunities arising from a drive towards low carbon motoring.
