Millbrook encourages young engineers to be inspired at interactive careers day

Students, teachers and parents invited to ‘See inside manufacturing’ as Millbrook shows support for government programme.
Young students, aged between 14-18, will be invited to attend an interactive careers day at Millbrook Proving Ground on 11 September 2012 in support of the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills’ (BIS) See Inside Manufacturing programme which ran in June this year.
The invitation, which is extended to teacher, parent and education professionals, will give budding engineers the rare opportunity to experience ‘behind the scenes’ automotive engineering at one of Europe’s leading test and development facilities for whole vehicle, components and systems.
With a schedule of tracks tours, demonstrations and tours of the site including crash, powertrain and durability, students will witness world-class engineers in action. They will also have the opportunity to be inspired by Millbrook’s apprentices, undergraduates and graduates who have already advanced successfully from education into the automotive industry.
Kevin Moxey, group head of planning and business operations at Millbrook explained: “This first hand insight into the different types of engineering careers will be invaluable to students who have an interest in engineering but are not quite sure how to apply their knowledge and skills in the commercial world. This event is designed to be interactive so that students feel comfortable asking our engineers about their jobs and their career paths. We also recognise the huge support students receive from both teachers and parents which is why this event is open to both.”
This is the second year Millbrook has supported the ‘See Inside Manufacturing’ which proved very successful in 2011.
“Millbrook will continue to support the UK automotive industry and the government in meeting its objective to improve supply base, upgrade skills base and retain jobs,” continued Kevin.
