Today the UK is home to more than 40 vehicle manufacturers and is a centre for design engineering with massive inward R&D investment.
Britain is also a world-leading exporter of high-tech goods – ahead of the US, France and Germany, with UK automotive exporting to over 100 markets worldwide.
The UK is the fourth largest vehicle manufacturer in Europe and the site of its most productive vehicle plant.
By manufacturing output, the UK is the sixth largest in the world. Manufacturing accounts for 13% of the UK’s GDP and productivity has increased by 50% since 1997.
