The regulatory environment in the UK has the least number of barriers to entrepreneurship in the world, according to the OECD.
The same organisation has noted that the UK is fifth in the world for product market regulation and has the third fewest barriers to trade and investment in the world.
As a springboard to Europe the UK is the number one gateway, with easy access to the 27 member states of the European Union, the world’s largest single market, with a population of nearly 500 million.
Significantly, the UK has an internationally competitive tax environment for foreign investors. The top corporate rate is 28%, the lowest in the G7 and below most of the UK’s core competitors.
The automotive sector in the UK attracts significant levels of foreign direct investment. 2008/09 saw 86 successful FDI wins, generating over two thousand new jobs.
