Millbrook’s Low Carbon champion Andy Eastlake recognised by industry award

1 Dec 2011

Millbrook, one of the UK’s leading centres of research and development for the vehicles and technologies of tomorrow, is celebrating after Andy Eastlake – group head of commercial and projects at the Bedfordshire proving ground – was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP). The award, a special commendation delivered alongside the formal ceremony, was presented by the LowCVP Secretariat to highlight Andy’s contribution to LowCVP initiatives to support the cause of low carbon vehicle transportation.

The accolade was presented at the LowCVP annual awards ceremony, held at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) headquarters, on November 14th. The LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards recognise innovation, forward-thinking and best practice across the transport sector, including vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators, as well as the developers of solutions that improve the efficiency of the UK’s transport infrastructure.

Greg Archer, managing director of the LowCVP, said: “We’re delighted to acknowledge the part played by Andy across the LowCVP community. He has worked ceaselessly for the wider transport sector, in particular for the LowCVP since its inception in 2003, and it was only right that we recognise that commitment. The awards acknowledge best practice and innovation, highlighting leadership in accelerating the shift to lower carbon vehicles and fuels – and Andy epitomises the innovation that abounds across the British automotive industry.”

Andy Eastlake noted: “It’s a privilege to be honoured by the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership in this way. I’m genuinely touched by it and know that it is also a function of the great work being done at Millbrook to further the cause of low carbon vehicle initiatives through continued test and development work with alternative fuels. Together, we look forward to continuing to support the low carbon community.”

Philippa Oldham, Head of Transport at the IMechE, added: “The shift to low carbon vehicles has the potential to be the greatest automotive development since the internal combustion engine. That’s why it’s so important that we recognise, through these awards, those British businesses that are building a low carbon vehicle industry in this country, helping to put the UK at the very forefront of this next technological revolution.”

Other winners of awards included Richard Parry-Jones, Industry Chair of the Automotive Council, WhipCar, Flybrid Systems LLP and Nissan GB.
